Necessity for Continuous Human Resource Development

It can be argued that the human resources are the greatest assets of business enterprises. The human factor will always be important regardless of the level of automation in a company or business organization. There will always be need for machine designers, programmers, operators and maintenance crew that will ensure the functions of the machines. It is virtually inconceivable that a company will be able to operate without human resources.

Although it is conceivable that many of the menial and dangerous jobs might be totally relegated to robots, human supervision will always be necessary. It would be in the interest of a company to have a human resource development program. This can be done in two ways, namely, through system of rewards or incentives and through trainings.

Boosting the morale of employees is the main goal of an incentive or reward system. Monetary and non-monetary rewards are typically included in an incentive system. Employees should have the chance for career growth within the company. Nonetheless, those who lack self-confidence and skills may not be sufficiently motivated by an incentive or reward program.

All employees have the innate talents and potential skills that can be developed through proper training. The training should be properly tailored. Company-sponsored training must be designed based on the needs of the business enterprise and should be tailored to the individual aptitudes. These training programs could either be very specific to the job or could be something generic for a particular department. These programs may include leadership training programs and team-building seminars.

The employees are not the only ones that benefit from human development programs but ultimately the company and their clientele. For instance, a business communication training program for managers and ordinary workers will help in improving operational efficiency. Important decisions will be more defensible and collective if there is good communication. A company will be more responsive in dealing with employees and clients. The interpersonal relationships and the overall morale of employees will also be boosted in the process.

If the employees are highly motivated, they are likely to perform better. They will tend to seek innovative solutions to problems. The need for direct supervision and micro-management is significantly reduced. Many company-sponsored human development programs are aimed at establishing autonomy in terms of problem-solving and individual accountability. At the same time, these programs are intended to improve teamwork and group cohesiveness.
